Optimal (re)scheduling of production in industrial processesincreases economic efficiency through timely and optimal use oflimited resources. In this article an approach to scheduling basedon the use of hybrid systems and model predictive control ispresented. Modelling flexibility, acceptable computational times, andoptimal disturbance rejection are the key advantages of theapproach. The main ideas are illustrated with two industrialapplications.
